Female Eclectus Parrot

Description

Bali Bird Park 2019 - Female Eclectus Parrot - She is covered in deep red feathers on her head and back, with stunning purple or blue feathers on her belly. Unlike the male's bright orange beak, her beak is a solid, shiny black color. The tip of her tail has a soft yellow or light orange band. In the wild, female Eclectus parrots are very dominant. They pick the nesting trees and will fight fiercely to protect them. They like to nest deep inside hollow trees high above the rainforest floor to keep their eggs safe. Because the males and females look so completely different, scientists originally thought they were two totally different species for many years!
